Small Box, Big Impact: Supporting the Blessing Box Project in Bluffton
At 100 Women Giving Back to the Lowcountry, we’re always looking for local causes that quietly—but powerfully—change lives. While our organization can only donate to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits, every now and then we come across a grassroots effort that deserves the spotlight. The Blessing Box Project is one of those.
We may not be able to donate our pooled funds, but we can raise awareness—and many of our generous members have chosen to support this initiative personally. We hope you'll be inspired to do the same.
What Is the Blessing Box Project?

Started by Bluffton local Kathy Straughn, the Blessing Box Project is a simple but powerful effort that puts food, toiletries, and other basic essentials directly into the hands of those in need. These weatherproof "little pantries" are placed in key locations across Bluffton and nearby towns, offering 24/7 access to non-perishable food and hygiene items—no forms, no requirements, just neighborly support.
The mission? "Take what you need, leave what you can."
It’s that simple—and that impactful.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity is a very real issue in our community. Whether it's a family in transition, an individual facing a hard month, or someone caught between paychecks, the Blessing Box Project ensures that no one has to go without the basics. It’s about dignity. Accessibility. And the incredible kindness of strangers.
And sometimes, the smallest acts—like a can of soup or a bar of soap—can mean the most.

A Note from 100 Women Giving Back to the Lowcountry
We’re proud to support a community that takes care of its own. While we couldn't officially donate to the Blessing Box Project, it reflects the very values we stand for: grassroots action, compassionate giving, and making a difference—one small gesture at a time.
100 Women Giving Back to the Lowcountry was founded by Allison Cobb and Natalie Burnside to empower local women to pool their resources and donate to Lowcountry nonprofits doing life-changing work. Since our founding, we’ve donated over $100,000 to local causes—and we’re just getting started.
